Group
Guidelines
First of all, please stay on-topic. The focus of the Oldies Music Group is the great music of the 1950s,
1960s and 1970s, brought to us by the great music artists from the U.S., the U.K., Canada, and all over the world. Please
don't use the Group's message board to post unrelated personal messages to one another. If you want to talk one-on-one with
another member, use email. Any messages posted to Oldies Music Group are deemed to be of interest to most of the
group members. Drifting off-topic from time to time is fine (it's also inevitable),
but please use common sense and don't post your entire life story. This is a fun place, and people may not appreciate reading
about someone's marital problems, personal trials or pet's upcoming neutering!
Secondly, Oldies Music Group
is not so much a venue for music sharing as it is a discussion board, although there are exceptions - and guidelines. Posting
of audio files on Oldies Music Group is permitted with the following stipulations:
- Any music posted to the group must fall within the parameters
of the group's focus - rock and pop music recorded during the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s.
- The posting of tracks that are commercially available
on CD or MP3 is strictly prohibited on the Oldies Music Group. (Rule of
thumb - if you see it for sale on Amazon.com or iTunes, or on an artist's website, don't post it.) Please respect
and show support for your favorite artists by purchasing their music legally.
- Members may use the Oldies
Music Group to post requests for out-of-print music (i.e., tracks that never made it to digital media), in which case other
members may convert tracks from vinyl and post them to the group. Members are also permitted to take the initiative
in posting audio files in order to stimulate discussion, and to post tracks that are already being discussed on the group.
- Please do not post links
to file-sharing sites such as Rapidshare or Mediafire. Instead, use the Files section of the group to post the individual
tracks. (People with dialup Internet connections or slow computers cannot use sites like Rapidshare.)
Along these same lines, please don't include the Oldies Music Group in mass mailings of file-sharing links.)
Violation of any of the
above guidelines will result in the message or file being deleted. Repeat offenders will be removed from the group.
As with all of my groups,
attachments have been disabled on the Oldies Music Group, which means that any audio files, photos, etc. sent or posted to
the group will be removed by Yahoo when the message is processed. Please use the Files or Photos section as needed (keeping
in mind the above criteria for music files). This also applies to messages forwarded as attachments, or messages
with embedded photos or html; removing attachments also disables html. Therefore, please post using plain text rather
than with colors and/or images.
Finally, any messages which
are insulting or abusive to any individual or to the group at large will be deleted, and the offending poster will be blocked
from any further posting on the board.
All group moderators reserve
the right to delete any messages, files, or other content at any time, for any reason, and without prior notice.
