More Than a Name (cont'd)

JESUS IS MORE (cont'd)

Another voice shouted angrily, "We didn't come to see this painting.  We came to see the Van Goghs, the Rembrandts.  Get on with the real bids!"

But still the auctioneer continued, "The son!  The son! Who'll take the son?"

Finally, a voice came from the very back of the room.  It was the longtime gardener of the man and his son.  "I'll give $10 for the painting." Being a poor man, it was all he could afford.

"We have $10, who will bid $20?"

"Give it to him for $10.  Let's see the masters."

"$10 is the bid,  Won't someone bid $20?" The crowd was becoming angry.  They didn't want the picture of the son.  They wanted the more worthy investments for their collections.  The auctioneer pounded the gavel.  "Going once, twice, SOLD for $10!"

A man sitting on the second row shouted, "Now let's get on with the collection!"

The auctioneer laid down his gavel. "I'm sorry, the auction is over."

"What about the paintings?"

"I am sorry.  When I was called to conduct this auction, I was told of a secret stipulation in the will.  I was not allowed to reveal that stipulation until this time.  Only the painting of the son would be auctioned.  Whoever bought that painting would inherit the entire estate, including the paintings.  The man who took the son gets everything!"

God gave his Son 2,000 years ago to die on a cruel cross.  Much like the auctioneer, His message today is, "The Son, the Son, who'll take the Son?" Because you see, whoever takes the Son gets everything.

One can do little else but stop and think after reading this story.

Every business has a chain of command.  The workers answer to a supervisor, who answers to a manager, who answers to an executive, who answers to the owner.  Well, Heaven and Earth have a chain of command, but it's a lot less cumbersome than the sort most of us deal with every day.  There's only One other on the pathway to God, and unlike most businesses, the way to the Boss is much smoother and more direct.

Jesus was a Man who walked among us two thousand years ago, but he was a Man with a very special purpose.  Since He walked among us, He knows us!  He knows our hearts and our minds, our strengths and our weaknesses, our virtues and our faults.  He knows what good we are capable of, and also what evil men can do.  Yet He loves us anyway, on behalf of His Father; and because He, Jesus, bled on the cross, the sins of mankind were washed away.

This means that Father and Son will cleanse you of your sins and make you pure so that you can receive Their love and be welcomed into Heaven on the day that you pass from this lifetime.  And like with any other loving parents, Their love is unconditional.  All you need to do is ask.

I don't know about you, but to me it's an enormous comfort to know that I'm not all alone in the world!  No matter how tough things get, I can look around at my friends and family and coworkers and know that "we're all in this together" and that we are all of us the children of God.

Are you skeptical?  Well, OK, I can't say that I blame you.  It does seem kind of fantastic that Jesus was raised from the dead and lifted up to Heaven to serve His Father.  Sounds kind of ... well, supernatural, don't you think? Hellooooo!!! THAT'S IT! Now you've got it!!!

What a beautiful thought!  What are you waiting for? Let your mind open up!  Release your brain and thoughts and soul from the shackles of  skepticism and allow your spirit to fly free!  Jesus is reaching out to you. One of His Hands clasps the Hand of God.  The other Hand He holds outstretched towards you.  Take His hand and let the glory of God wash over you through Jesus!
