Da Doo Ron Ron

For better or worse, this song will always be associated with producer Phil Spector and his brash "Wall of Sound" production style.   Spector's 1963 recording of "Da Doo Ron Ron" with The Crystals became an instant classic.  Its blaring big band presence made an impact around the world.  Unfortunately, some of Jeff's song got lost amid the booming drums and honking saxophones.  Teen heartthrob Shaun Cassidy better captured the essence of "Da Doo Ron Ron" with his chart-topping 1977 remake.  The infectious meld of maracas, bass, handclappings (ah, it wouldn't be an uptempo Jeff Barry song be without those!) and Beach Boys-styled guitar brings to mind the setting of a high school basketball game ... pom poms are shaking furiously, ponytails are swingin' to the beat, and a thousand feet are stomping in unison on hardwood bleachers.  Yaaaaaaaaay, team!  The image of a lovestruck teenage boy bowled over by the chance to walk his girl home from school comes through loud and clear.

Da Doo Ron Ron
words and music by Jeff Barry, Ellie Greenwich and Phil Spector

Met him on a Monday and my heart stood still
Da Doo Ron Ron Ron, Da Doo Ron Ron
Somebody told me that his name was Bill
Da Doo Ron Ron Ron, Da Doo Ron Ron

Yeah, my heart stood still
Yeah, his name was Bill
And when he walked me home
Da Doo Ron Ron Ron, Da Doo Ron Ron

He knew what he was doin' when he caught my eye
Da Doo Ron Ron Ron, Da Doo Ron Ron
He looked so quiet, but my, oh my
Da Doo Ron Ron Ron, Da Doo Ron Ron

Yeah, he caught my eye
Yeah, my, oh my
And when he walked me home
Da Doo Ron Ron Ron, Da Doo Ron Ron

He picked me up at seven and he looked so fine
Da Doo Ron Ron Ron, Da Doo Ron Ron
Someday soon I'm gonna make him mine
Da Doo Ron Ron Ron, Da Doo Ron Ron

Yeah, he looked so fine
Yeah, I'll make him mine
And when he walked me home
Da Doo Ron Ron Ron, Da Doo Ron Ron
